Episolipsism is a coined term to illustrate the essence of our movement. The word ‘Episolipsism’ is composed of the prefix ‘epi-’ and the philosophical concept ‘-solipsism’.
The prefix ‘epi-’ is originated from Greek, which has the meaning of upon, above and over; for instance, the word ‘epidermis’. However, it also has the idea of, not necessarily to be above or beyond something, but the concept of after and subsequent to, like the word ‘epilogue’. The usage of ‘epi-’ in the word ‘epitome’ is similar to the manifestation of Episolipsism—the pure and the fullest form of Solipsism.
Episolipsism is the movement that reconstructs the relationship between the artists and the viewers. We have three main intentions: first, to act against interpretation; second, to embrace individuality; third, to believe arts is the future of humanity.
Interpretation is a deadly poison to every artist. Some might argue that once the artwork is out and being seen by the public, the artist does not have any control over it anymore; or in a more optimistic way ‘the artwork is now being completed with the help of interpretation and judgement from the audience’.
Artists have never been able to express their true intention through their works. It is the responsibility for artists to protect the essence of their works—to act against interpretation. It is about time that artists should take absolute control over their own artworks. It is about time that artists should dictate to their viewers.
